ABOUT

Aric & Heather Co-Own and work on the Redneck Chalk beetle together.
It Is A Joint Effect. It is not one person doing all the work and the other takes the credit.
They purchased this 1965 VW Beetle in August 2019They went to car shows and saw do not touch signs everywhere.
Children with their parents and grandparents started off interested.
Then that enthusiasm gradually diminish after each reminder to not get too close and not to touch.
Aric & Heather understand that some people put a lot of money and time into their vehicles
and do not want even the accidental scratch. And this is understandable.
Together they decided to turn this Beetle into an interactive vehicle.
Where kids from 2-92 could respectfully draw on their Beetle.
To encourage and reward everyone,
they hand out unique commemorative stickers and offer an all natural lollipop.
One of each is given to each person after they draw on the Redneck Chalk Beetle.

History behind the word REDNECK

The first use of “redneck” appears in reference to the Scottish Covenanters or supporters of the National Covenant in the 17th century. This was an independence movement created by Scotland’s Presbyterian Church in response to King Charles I of England and his attempt to control the church. The Scottish Presbyterians signed the National Covenant in 1638 in their own blood, symbolizing their oath to their religion and not to the King of England. They also wore blood-red bandannas around their necks as a statement. Under the Kings’ persecution, many Covenanters joined the Scottish migration to Ireland that had already begun in the early 1600s.
The Kirk Party were a radical Presbyterian faction of the
Scottish Covenanters during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms.
The army associated with the Kirk party under David Leslie, 1st Lord Newark was destroyed by Oliver Cromwell at the Battle of Dunbar in September 1650.
Between 1910's - 1930's The word was used with prejudice during coal mining strikes. There was a series of violent clashes called the Redneck War, which derived its name from the color of bandanas worn by the miners around their necks to distinguish themselves from the sheriff’s deputies, company guards and state militia, who wore white neckerchiefs and armbands. This uprising ranks as the largest armed insurrection in American labor history. In the 1930's the term was used to describe coal miners who members of a local miner labor union and National Miners Union. The 21st centenary the term Redneck can mean gun-toting, truck-driving, inbred, poorly educated, not complicated or highly developed, lacking good manners, without refinement, rude, crude, or vulgar, unwashed, back country.

Redneck Ingenuity

A resourceful, creative, clever, practical, and often unconventional, approach to problem-solving.
Make do with what's on hand, readily available tools and materials.

Focus on finding quick, effective solutions rather than elegant ones, sometimes with a humorous or "ridiculous" outcome.

It involves applying common sense, innovative or unorthodox methods and hands-on creativity, often without formal engineering principles, to quickly fix a problem or create something new from discarded or unexpected items to achieve a goal.

As a couple, we love to improvise and repurpose objects. We definitely do not suffer from Functional Fixedness.Aric's 7th Great Grandfather, directly through the male bloodline, was Robert Junkins;
A Battle of Dunbar Scottish prisoner of war.
Aric can be crass and unsophisticated.

Where it Began

The Adventure Begins "Lets Do This"

We bought this Beetle on August 11, 2019

Picture taken August 24, 2019

This is the day after my husband got the the deck lids on,rear side windows installed, the doors put on and the engine in the car. It still didn't have seats, my husband had to sit on a milk crate to test drive it.
Aric Named her Eleanor Rigby.

June 2020

We met our friends Casey and Jen
All because Casey had VW Beetle parts for sale.
Casey has been wonderful in helping Aric since almost the beginning of the Redneck Chalk Beetle.

July 10, 2020

Casey helped Aric pull the engine, change out the generator to an alternator and time and tune the engine.Cause then helped Aric create custom seat brackets and Casey welded them in. Then the PT Cruiser seat went in.

September 26, 2020

May 1, 2021

The engine seized on the way to the VW Dust off, Kittrty, ME. The engine seized 20 miles from our home and about 60 miles from the dust off. AAA delivered it home and we took our SAAB too the dust off. It was fun to see everyone.
